“Preparing educators through the ongoing assessment of performance practices to ensure progression in teacher quality and student achievement.”

The goal of CharterTeacher is to assist schools with compliance for teacher certification through the Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GaTAPP) program which is an alternative route to teacher preparation program geared specifically to teachers employed in the charter school sector.

A performance-based, job-embedded teacher preparation program with multiple pathways for teacher candidates to earn a clear, renewable certificate that: 

• supports Georgia charter school teachers as they transition from careers in fields other than education into the teaching profession; 
• targets college graduates to enter teaching through a standards-based program that integrates clinical practices, diverse field-based experiences, performance outcomes, and professional learning to develop effective teachers; 
• seeks to equip candidates with the skills to ensure a reasonable expectation of success in the classroom which will help them move toward mastery of teaching;
• evaluates teacher candidates through outcomes aligned with best practices from national, state, and professional standards;
• provides structured supervision, coaching, and mentoring by a Candidate Support Team (CST) which includes an administrator, mentor, and GaTAPP director (one of which is a content specialist) to ensure teacher candidates achieve program success;  and
• trains teacher candidates with the knowledge, and dispositions delineated in the teaching competencies to improve teaching and learning and enhance student achievement.                                       
  

CharterTeacher Initiatives

The CharterTeacher GaTAPP is an educator preparation program for highly qualified, experienced professionals who are interested in pursuing careers in teaching.  The vision of the GaTAPP is to enhance the social, emotional, and academic growth in charter school students.  The mission of the GaTAPP program is to promote highly effective teaching and learning, scholarship, and professionalism in the charter sector through quality professional learning, mentoring, and assessment practices.  The GaTAPP employs the same rigorous standards as that of a traditional teacher-training program, but provides another option for charter school teachers to earn state licensure.
