Description
Located in suburban Atlanta, GA, Amana Academy is a K-8 public charter school. Chartered by Fulton County Schools, Amana Academy is designed to provide a strong Expeditionary Learning instructional framework and a solid Fulton County curriculum enhanced by community-wide partnerships and Arabic language instruction to all students, from kindergarten through 8th grade. Amana’s mission, focusing on high academic achievement through strong communication skills, foreign language learning, community service, environmental awareness, and character building through project-based learning expeditions, promises to be a school that attracts especially dedicated and talented professionals.
Amana Arabic Program
Amana Arabic teachers are designing, developing, and teaching a state-of-the-art new curriculum based on the innovative Georgia Elementary School Foreign Language (ESFL) model. This communicative, thematic, 4-skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) curriculum, which is taught for 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week, has the potential of becoming a national model for Arabic as a Foreign Language instruction. The Arabic curriculum is also designed to reinforce grade-level concepts taught in the core curriculum, thus integrating Arabic and culture studies into Amana’s educational program. In addition, Amana’s Arabic teachers are fully integrated with the rest of the faculty, benefiting from professional development opportunities and school-wide structures that will enhance and reinforce the Arabic program throughout the school.
Qualities of an Amana Teacher
Amana is hiring extraordinary individuals to participate in a unique educational program. Amana’s school culture encourages all community members to become crew, not passengers, in a climate of mutual respect, collegiality, collaboration, and professionalism. Amana teachers promote high academic achievement by designing learning expeditions to construct deep understandings and to create products for real audiences. In addition, teachers foster student character development through high expectations, engaging content, and service learning.
The school leadership provides many opportunities for teachers’ professional growth; in turn, an Amana teacher models lifelong learning to students.
