Company asks to open charter school in area

Charter Schools USA, which filed its petition earlier this year, this month, was granted an extension until Dec. 31 by the Cherokee County School Board to work on responses to questions posed by the Cherokee County School District staff.  The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based company is proposing to open a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school named Cherokee Charter Academy in the 2010-11 school year.  "We feel it's a good fit and we feel we can be an asset to the community," Richard Page, vice president of operations for Charter Schools USA, said of Woodstock.
