Associate Teacher Position – The Neighborhood Charter School

General Responsibilities

  • Commitment to learning and assisting Lead Teachers with implementing the school’s conservation and sustainability-based curriculum utilizing constructivist learning theory and supporting the potential of each student.
  • Assist in creating a student -centered classroom-learning environment.
  • Assist with the daily operations and related responsibilities of assigned class (es).
  • Work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, community members and others to support and implement the goals of the school.
  • Participate in necessary staff and school related meetings.
  • Engage in appropriate and ongoing professional development.
  • Work flexible hours as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific Classroom Responsibilities:

Associate Teachers are an integral part of all teaching and learning teams at the Neighborhood Charter School.  To that end the specific classroom responsibilities are varied and all encompassing.  A good understanding of constructivist learning theory, the curriculum of their assigned class, and the Georgia Performance Standards is desirable, but not required.

Applicants should have a strong desire to learn and enhance their knowledge and understanding of teaching in a constructivist setting.  Associate Teachers have the opportunity to grow as professionals and give input into the planning process and establishment of student learning goals.  Assessment strategies and tools are varied and Associate Teachers play a very important role in observation and documentation of student performance.  The partnership of a Lead and Associate Teacher in each classroom optimizes both learning and relational opportunities for students.  A focus on solid pairing of Lead and Associate Teachers is imperative to each classroom and assisting teaching team development a priority.
