Westside Atlanta Charter School – Paraprofessional

Position Summary:

Paraprofessionals provide necessary supports for our classrooms, especially those with younger children. These instructors will work in partnership with the classroom teacher to ensure that individual student needs are met and that classroom order is kept. A paraprofessional will often work with small groups of children within the classroom on specific educational needs. In a startup charter school our Paraprofessionals will serve as “utility players” and should anticipate different tasks and assignments that could vary by day.

  • Support and promote the vision, mission and core values of imagination, rigor, and service of Westside Atlanta Charter School

  • Support and promote Westside Atlanta Charter School’s focus on literacy and language development through the partnership of the Rollins Center of the Atlanta Speech School and a student-centered approach to learning.

  • Embrace the school’s commitment to diversity and serve as an ambassador for families and the community, at large, that represent various ethnicities, races, income levels and backgrounds.

    Key Classroom Behaviors

    • Ability to collaborate with lead teacher

    • Classroom management skills

    • Ability and willingness to integrate technology in the classroom

    • Ability to provide small group instruction to students

    • Help maintain classroom records and student portfolios

    • Partner with other school personnel to ensure student safety and security is maintained

    • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned

      Requirements:

    • A baccalaureate or higher degree preferred; minimum requirement of Associate’s Degree, or two years of study at a 4-year college (60 semester hours), or 100 quarter hours at a technical college, or having passed the PSC-approved paraprofessional assessment.

    • Paraprofessionals with instructional support duties will meet guidelines of Section 1119 of the No Child Left Behind Act and ESEA.

    • Efficient with technology

    • Clear communication skills

    • Be willing to take on new tasks; flexibility and “can-do” positive attitude
