POSITION: Special Education Compliance Specialist

DESCRIPTION: The compliance specialist’s primary function will be to provide direct and administrative oversight of the Special Education Department at Georgia Cyber Academy to improve compliance with federal, state, and school laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Compliance Specialist will
• be a certified and experienced as a teacher of special education or other specialized services provider
• 3 years of successful teaching or specialized services experience
• have demonstrated leadership skills.
• knowledgeable of state and charter school law and regulations, federal and state special education laws and regulations, response to intervention, and the Student Support Team process.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with Special Programs Leadership and special education teachers regarding the eligibility and compliance processes
• Respond to inquiries or complaints from parents in a timely manner.
• Prepare initial eligibilities and chair eligibility meetings
• Serve as a member of the RTI team
• Monitor and support the compliance of timelines and state and federal regulations
• Monitor FTE reports
• Complete verification reports
• Plan/implement effective professional learning activities
• Work collaboratively with others to achieve special education performance and compliance goals.
• Be knowledgeable of the Georgia Performance Standards
• Serve as a liaison between parents, teachers and lead teachers
• Attend special programs department meetings.
• Coordinate and provide training for special educators as directed by district goals and local administrators.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Requirements:
• Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Experienced in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and able to learn specific student management system(s) such as SEAS
• Prior experience in or knowledge of special education.
• This position will require in office time at a minimum of 2 days per week
