Utopian Academy for the Arts – Social Worker (Clayton)


Utopian Academy for the Arts is an independent public charter school serving middle school children and families throughout Clayton County, GA. Utopian Academy will enroll 300 students in the 2014-15 school year. Utopian Academy was approved by the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia and will operate as a Local Education Agency (LEA). The rationale for the enrollment plan for Utopian Academy for the Arts is to provide a significant educational benefit of having a gender-based classroom environment, longer school day, longer school year, Saturday school, and classes in the dramatic, media, and culinary arts for students in Clayton County, GA.


  • Provide students and families social work services;

  • Provide small group seminar sessions to students regularly promoting positive social and emotional development;

  • Provide small group and individual therapy sessions;

  • Suggest and connect families with appropriate social services;

  • Serve as the school’s Homeless Liaison;

  • Make referrals to appropriate sources such as those who assist families to complete the Medicaid or PeachCare eligibility process.

  • Refer students of families for necessary medical, mental health, or substance abuse services covered by Medicaid and gathers information for the referral.

  • Refer and manage cases for the Department of Family and Children Services.

  • Maintain privacy of student records and information;

  • Undertake administrative and instructional duties as the Principal may assign.


  • BA/BS Degree or graduate degree in Social Work, MSW preferred;

  • Experience and demonstrated ability in working with children in a teaching, counseling or other applicable capacity;

  • Knowledge of local social services;

  • Experience with individual goal writing, charting, and progress note taking;

  • Exhibited leadership in working with professional staff, students, and the community;

  • Demonstrated success in encouraging parental involvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
