The Museum School of Avondale Estates – Foreign Language/Culture Teacher (DeKalb)

The Museum School of Avondale Estates seeks a qualified, dynamic, and passionate educator to become the Foreign Language/Culture teacher.  The teacher will develop and implement lessons that incorporate the museum school model and are hands-on, interactive, and aligned with the Quality Core Curriculum.  Additionally, the teacher will work closely with other staff members to aid in integrating languages into the general curriculum.

The Museum School offers the accessibility of a public school with the organizational and curricular innovation of a museum school model. Beginning at the neighborhood level, students develop a strong sense of community, independence, responsibility, and respect for the impact of their decisions and actions on others. These skills will inspire them with the confidence to identify and manage problems at the local and global level.


  • Minimum Bachelors Degree; Degree in field of education preferred
  • In-field Georgia P-12 teaching certification; Certification/Endorsement in more than 1 field preferred
  • Experience with elementary aged students required
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing various instructional and teaching methodologies
  • Experience working with a diverse student population preferred
  • Experience integrating curriculum, Quality Core Curriculum, and effective instructional practices
  • Experience in creating standards-based lessons, units, and assessments
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills


  • Develop lessons and activities, aligned with the school’s curriculum map, focused on exposure to world language and cultures
  • Providing instruction based on the museum school model, guidelines for differentiating curriculum, and best practices
  • Developing and implementing language lessons and activities based on individual needs and learning styles
  • Planning collaboratively with school staff to enrich thematic units, support Learning Expeditions, and prepare for Exhibit Nights
  • Monitoring personal progress through reflection and creation of Professional Growth Plan
  • Implementing a pro-active, consistent classroom management system
  • Participating in Professional Development workshops and opportunities
