The Globe Academy – Director of Policy & Community Relations

Serving as the school’s Chief Legal Officer, the Director of Policy & Community Relations will partner with the Head of School to execute on GLOBE’s Vision & Mission through the strategic development and management of external partnerships and relationships. They will focus on not only building, but leveraging those relationships. The ideal candidate has experience in the non-profit space, preferably in a charter or private school environment, and is an accessible and engaged member of the School Leadership Team who is known to model our core beliefs and values in the larger community.

Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities:  



  • Oversees policies and policy-related initiatives of the school, ensuring compliance with all state, local, and national laws that apply; serves as liaison between school and district/state legal and policy partners; serves as school’s spokesperson for matters involving charter school/educational policy
  • Ensures the charter is implemented and the school mission and core beliefs are followed.
  • Acts as advisor to Head of School in navigating political issues regarding school/charter school policies serving as thought leader in guiding the school’s position and strategic goals from a charter school policy advocacy standpoint
  • Attends GA Charter School Association meetings, state Charter Schools meetings, district meetings, and any other meetings deemed necessary by the school leader to effectively manage and stay abreast of policy affecting charter schools and schools in DeKalb County
  • Manages portfolio of partners at the local, state, community, international levels (international consulates, university partners, researchers, local businesses)
  • Creates and manages memorandums of understanding for all partners; manages relationships with external legal counsel as needed
  • Collaborates with Director of Development in securing partnerships with capital benefits
  • Creates quarterly newsletter to distribute to parents and other community stakeholders regarding the school’s external partnerships and  partner-building initiatives
  • Annually creates survey to evaluate effectiveness/efficacy of all partnerships and analyzes data; creates report to submit to the Head of  School and governing board
  • Works collaboratively with the Leadership Team to develop and effectively implement a School Improvement Plan.
  • Works collaboratively with the Leadership Team to develop and implement an effective Staff Development Plan surrounding legal and policy related literacy
  • Collaborates with the in writing the parent handbook in compliance with the charter and any applicable laws/policies
  • Collaborates with Head of School to write the staff handbook in compliance with the charter and any applicable employment laws/policies
  • Creates school Discipline Code/Code of Conduct; Ensures adherence to DeKalb County School District’s Code of Conduct
  • Chairs the school’s discipline tribunal committee for student dismissals and recruits qualified mediators versed in due process to serve on this committee
  • Responsible for all matters concerning student discipline
  • Attends Governing Board meetings and reports as requested
  • Any additional duties or responsibilities as required of an effective operations leader, or as assigned by the Head of School


Education, Certification/License, and Other Qualifications


  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution and admittance to Georgia Bar Association (in good standing)
  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited university



  • 3-5 years of grassroots community organizing/non-profit partnership management experience

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Strong demonstrated community organizing and partnership building skills
  • Knowledge of charter school and state laws, as well as special education laws and policies
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate and relate to a wide spectrum of stakeholders and audiences

  • Routine physical activities are required to fulfill job responsibilities
