Middle School Principal – Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (APS)

Middle Campus (grades 6-8) Principal Position

The Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School seeks a dynamic school leader to serve as Principal of its middle school campus (grades 6-8) beginning in the 2013-14 school year. ANCS is a free public charter school within the Atlanta Public Schools with two campuses in the city of Atlanta serving students in grades K-8. The ANCS middle school campus currently has approximately 235 students in grades 6-8 and a faculty and staff size of approximately 25 employees. The campus is located in the Ormewood Park neighborhood of southeast Atlanta.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the articulation and implementation of the ANCS mission and strategic goals at the middle campus

  • Collaborate with principal at elementary campus to develop and sustain a coordinated K-8 system of (1) setting student learning goals, (2) collecting and analyzing data related to those goals, (3) providing professional development for faculty/staff towards meeting these goals

  • Collaborate with principal at elementary campus to insure horizontal and vertical alignment of educational program K-8

  • Insure implementation of school, local, and state policies and procedures at the middle campus

  • Oversee communication with faculty/staff, students, and families at the middle campus and work to resolve escalated grievances from these groups

  • Direct the development, supervision and evaluation process for faculty and staff at the middle campus

  • Manage the budget for the middle campus

  • Serve as an ambassador for the middle campus in the wider community

  • Report to the Executive Director on progress towards school goals and charter compliance requirements

  • Lead leadership team for the middle campus

  • Serve on the K-8 leadership team

  • Handle additional duties which may be assigned by the Executive Director Education:

  • Master’s degree in education or related field required

  • Completion of a school leadership program and/or Georgia certification in educational leadership preferred


The experience and qualification requirements/preferences for this position include:

  • Minimum of 5 years successful experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged students

  • Minimum of 3 years successful experience in a leadership/supervisory role in an educational setting

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse groups of students, teachers, and families

  • Experience in a charter school and/or Coalition of Essential Schools setting preferred
