Macon Charter Academy – School Principal/Leader (Bibb)

About the Position:                                   

This is a unique opportunity to lead and grow Macon Charter Academy, a new public charter school in Bibb County, Macon, Georgia.  It will open with grades K-5 in August, 2014, and add one grade per year through 8th grade.  It will initially serve 600 students (100 per grade) and grow to serve a total of 900 students at full capacity.

Macon Charter Academy will be a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) accreditation.  The School Principal will lead Macon Charter Academy’s Primary Years Program (PYP) in the 2014-2015 academic year.  The Principal will also oversee the development of the Middle Years Program (MYP) as grades 6 – 8 are added in subsequent years.

The ideal candidate will be fully dedicated to the mission of Macon Charter Academy and will be committed to keeping the academic and personal success of our students as a core focus.  The School Principal is the instructional leader and will implement the instructional vision of the school.  Knowledge of and training in the International Baccalaureate program and curriculum is a plus. The Principal reports directly to the Governing Board of Macon Charter Academy.  S/he will oversee the day-to-day activities of the educational program and is the first contact for teachers and parents.  The Principal, in consultation with the Governing Board, is responsible for the hiring, training and evaluation of the faculty and staff.  Evaluation of the effectiveness of the Principal’s work is done by the Governing Board.

Specific duties of the Principal include:                          

  • Overseeing, training  and evaluating of the faculty and staff
  • Overseeing the IB accreditation process                 
  • Leading curriculum development                 
  • Designing and implementing an effective, ongoing professional development program.  
  • Setting and enforcing the school discipline code                
  • Serving as one of the primary contacts for parents and families of MCA student
  • Managing the classroom budgets              
  • Fostering a collaborative professional environment where faculty members are treated with the highest levels of professional respect 
  • Establishing  a school culture where faculty are empowered in school wide decision making in the areas of their professional expertise
  • Serving on school leadership team   
  • Maintaining monthly updates and communication with the Governing Board
  • Leading the program design of Primary Years Program (PYP)
  • Leading the program design of the Middle Years Program (MYP) 

 Candidate Requirements:

  • Significant teaching experience on the elementary and middle school levels
  • Prior training and/or certification in the International Baccalaureate program is a plus      
  • Previous administrative experience 
  • Master’s degree, preferred  
  • Collaborative spirit and skill           
  • Excellent communication skills        
  • Strong work ethic    
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Must enjoy working with very talented and dedicated colleagues
